Creature description:

It entangles itself in hard, sharp vines. The vines leave severe gashes all over its body, and most of its head striped of flesh. The creature spends most of the day lying motionless on the banks of the swamp. The bacteria invested water constantly washes its wounds and leaves the damaged flesh unable to heal, so its skin is always in a rank, decaying state.

Whenever large predators come around to inspect what they think is a rotting corpse, it’s dinner time for the Dead Head.

The Dead Head lacks eyelids so its eyes naturally sink into the skull to protect them from the possibility of sun damage.

Origins:

Nobody has been able to trace the Dead Head’s origins and nobody knows how many of these creatures exist. They are very good at hiding and burying themselves in the swamps when need be. Only one Dead Head has been successfully documented. The second attempt proved fatal to the research team. They will be missed.
